Leah's Song

from 13 Minutes by Jeff Hayman

/

about

A barmaid was telling me the sad story about being abandoned by her alcoholic father and I found it ironic that she chose being a barmaid as a profession. So I went home and wrote "Leah's Song" and went back the next day and played it for her.

Since then I've been playing it at most gigs if the feeling was right.

lyrics

She asked for the last time
If he knew where he was
And just like every time
He screamed at her because…

He's falling down a hole
To the bottom, where no one saw
Of a bottle's glassy wall
Only way he knew how to fall
If he knew angels were
Asleep in their beds
He would have thought twice
Before he left
But one woke up and heard it all
That little angel
Didn't have to know that her Daddy...

Was falling down a hole
To the bottom, where no one saw
Of a bottle's glassy wall
Only way he knew how to fall

Now every tuesday
She's at the bar
She's working and her mind drifts afar
Still hears her Daddy
Screaming off in the car
She's broken and it's breaking my heart

She's falling down a hole
To the bottom, where no one saw
Of a bottle's glassy wall
Only way she knew how to fall

They're falling down a hole
To the bottom, where no one saw
Of a bottle's glassy wall
Only way they knew how to fall...
How to fall... how to fall...
